Super friendly staff. We stumbled in basically looking for Mumbai, who used to occupy this space. Instead of turning around we stayed and enjoyed our first Korean dinner. We were completely new to this type of cuisine but I had a friend on texts that coached us on what to get and what to expect. Even with the coaching my wife wasn't eating the Bibimbap the right way, the owner noticed this and graciously showed her how to mix everything up and how to use the sauces. From talking to my friend and from my own experience, it sounds like BUL GO GI is legit. The one odd thing was that they served the mung bean jelly (but told me it acorn jelly..?) to us without the special soy/sesame sauce so it was super plain. I'm not sure if this was an oversight or standard. In their defense, I was too ignorant to know better until after the fact so I never asked about it. We'll be back for sure.

Very clean and simple decor. Super friendly staff that are always there to help. Food was great as well. Loved all of it. We got Bul go gi and Bi bim bap. Plus you get all the sides and rice. Their gyoza is AMAZING!!! This is Korean fine dining so a little pricey, but you aren't charged for all the sides, rice, or the drinks. We will definitely return!

Very clean fresh korean food. Im korean and most korean places serve shitty side dishes and taste like msg. This place does not. Fresh and thwy give you a shit load of food for the price. Great for lunches.

People rave about this place, but the portions small and the food wasn't really anything amazing to me. It was interesting and unique, having food grilled at our table, but when our bill came to $50 for 2 people, I thought it was overpriced. I won't be back.

A great addition to the East Lansing food scene (it's on Albert ave, at the place where Mumbai was). The food was good and authentic , the environment clean, and the service was good. My friends and I had the Korean bbq combo which you get to cook on the hot plate just like in Asia. The meat was seasoned well and very tender. The salad and sides were also fresh and delicious. Lunch items like bulgogi runs about $7~$9, they also have shabu shabu and hot pots which are a little pricier but can be shared with friends.

Great place for a unique dinner with a date or friends!

Interesting find in East Lansing. The grill-it-yourself table-side prep makes the whole experience very entertaining. Tried the beef-tongue (Carpaccio thin) and it was delicious; grilling to a perfect, tender bite in about 20 seconds. Side dishes that came with the meal were very good, particularly the kimchee. Atmosphere is very casual (college town). Service is on the slow side, so this is not a place if you're in a rush. I'd definitely go back for a casual dinner.

Got in and got drinks first but waiting for like 10' while servers walking around texting on their phone. Food: Jia jang mun taste nothing and boring which i though it is good. jia jang mun = noodle+onion sauce+ half egg. the onlything taste good is halfeg. i wasted $10 for only half egg. Not recommend for anyone. also drinks are sky high.

Not a bad choice for Korean BBQ. But I don't like the sauce that much...

I've been to Korean BBQ style restaurants in Los Angeles and Japan before and this was on par. Took us a few minutes to realize we had to hit the button on the table when we were ready to order but once we realized it, service was super fast and our waitress was excellent. Foo was extremely tasty and i was impressed how well the meats cooked on the infrared versus charcoal ( like places in LA or Japan) . Beer/wine selection was great and I was really happen they offered soju! My husband and I will definitely be back!!

Great food and a lot of it too. I never leave hungry and whenever I ask for more sides they fulfil my request. I haven't tried the BBQ table because I don't eat meat but the tofu bibimbap is delicious!

Decent Korean food in downtown East Lansing. Food is good and fresh, service is a bit slow. Had a tofu bibimbap which was great (several veggie and seafood options). The big draw is the at-your-table bbq though. If they speed up the service, this easily wins out over Charlie Kang's.

Place is pretty good my wife likes it a lot they do the korean bbq thing that's nice everything is tasty good portions service can be slow and there a bit pricey but I think that has a lot to do with how expensive there location is.

I was so excited to come here, but that was very quickly taken care of... We ordered different meats to barbecue on the grills they have at the tables. In the middle of all that excitement, the owner came to our table and, without a word, took our tongs, pulled the meat off of the grill, turned our grill off, and walked away with our tongs. We were speechless... I am a seasoned cook and can't think of anything we could have been doing that could have triggered that behavior. We still can't figure out what happened. Most importantly, the food was 'meh'... I was truly disappointed with the place, specially with the behavior of the owner.

I went here with a friend for dinner. The decor was nice and service was mediocre. I was a bit dismayed to find that they don't have a liquor license. So I ordered an iced tea with lemon. For dinner, we decided to split a combo of kalbi, bulgogi, chicken, and shrimp. This was approx $35 in price. There was five shrimp and small bits of beef, no bones, for the kalbi. Just a little bit of chicken and a small lump of bulgogi. I couldn't really taste any seasoning. It just tasted like plain meat. It was served with a few side dishes. I was still hungry when I left. Again, I think the price is inflated and the amount of food is stingy.

I had a great time at this place. We got a warm greeting by the owner at the entrance. The place is very clean and little smokey from the BBQ. I brought my girlfriend with me and we ordered Beef Tataki(Seared rare beef thinly sliced)as appetizer. It comes with ponzu sauce with little drop of grated garlic and korean chili paste. Beef is very flavorful and just the way I like it. Then followed by their complementary mini side dishes such as kimchi, macaroni salad, pickled daikon radish, braised sweet potatoes. Surprisingly the Kimchi wasn't spicy and had a very lite flavor. I wished it was more potent though. Maybe the owner is trying to make the kimchi more suitable to everyone's taste. For the main dish, we ordered Beef Tongue, Dae Kalbi, Sam Gyop Sal(It's like thick cut unsmoked bacon), Vegetable Plate. Those dishes are served with several kinds of house sauces. Salt Pepper Sesame oil for beef tongue. Also comes with lemon juice to dip. I think the lemon juice is from the "Real Lemon" the one comes from lemon shaped container. Then 3 of their house sauces, Teriyaki, sweet chili sauce, ponzu with lemon slice. Beef Tongue is sliced very thinly and extremely flavorful. It cooks in literally seconds. Dae Kalbi is Asian Short RIb with bones. Served with house made salad. Salad is lightly tossed with Asian vinaigrette and very refreshing with a hint of Korean chilli peppers but it's mild. Comes with scissors to cut the meat off the bone. It is well-marinated so you don't need sauce to dip. Extremely tender and juicy. Sam Gyop Sal is lightly salted & peppered. It gives nice crispy texture outside and its flavor is refined. The owner Mr. Kevin Cho told us that this pork is imported directly from very famous farm in Korea. The best pork you can get. If you never had it, everyone should try it! Vegetable Plate had generous amount of onions, squash, sweet potatoes, pre-boiled corn on the cob, mushrooms. It's definitely big enough for 2~4 people. Having said that, we couldn't finish all of it. The vegetable are lightly marinated with their house marinade to enhance the flavor. Very good deal. We were so full and happy that we couldn't move.... Also I'm not a dessert person so I didn't even look at dessert. What makes this place so different from other Korean BBQ type restaurant? This place uses something called "Infrared Grill Technology" Very bright and extremely high heat penetrates to the meat. It cuts the cooking time in a half. So the meat remains juicy without having the chance to get dried out. Because it cooks much faster, you need to watch it more carefully and make sure the meat is not burnt. It is kinda hard to tell if the meat is cooked or not due to very bright infrared grill. All the meat we cooked come out juicy and delicious. One more thing, the owner is walking around the restaurant and making sure everyone is happy and he's always there to help you if you have question or anything. I know it's Fine Korean cuisine so it's not cheap but their price is actually much cheaper than Soul Garden in Ann Arbor. I live in Ypsilanti and Soul Garden is much closer but I'd still go for Bulgogi East Lansing thanks to the wonderful owner and their staff. Most importantly great quality food!

There are very few Korean places to choose from in the East Lansing area and I'm happy that this restaurant came in. We had the Korean BBQ Dae Galbi and Spicy Pork which was succulent and tender. The side dishes were plentiful and varied. I also thoroughly enjoyed the spicy and rich Kimchee Jjigae. The ambiance and decor was inviting and the owner charming. I will be going back again.

I would like to give Bulgogi five stars. Out of the three times I've been, two of them were excellent, worth the money. The meat is fresh and the sides are very interesting and tasty. Tonight, however, we ordered the spicy monkfish and beans. I don't know if it was traditional or not. I don't know. Maybe I'm just not used to it, but I've had monkfish before (from the Kroger in Okemos, no less! The fish counter!) that was not just bones and scales, and was actually really delicious. The dish was monkfish bones, sea squirts (biologically interesting, but not appetizing to me) and bean sprouts. Sublimely terrible; essentially we paid $25 for a pile of bean sprouts because it is impossible to eat bone tissue effectively. Also the fish did not taste fresh, and if I'm paying $25 for a meal, the ingredients had damn well better be fresh. I cannot recommend this dish. Better luck next time, Bulgogi.

I really like this place! We came here on a Friday night (make reservations! It gets packed around 7pm!) and ordered the and kal bi plates, along with pajeon on the side. With all the novelty of cooking your own food aside, the bbq plates were reasonably tasty, with the kalbi (~$15) already marinated in a nice sweet/tangy sauce... I enjoyed it more than the slightly bland scallop (~$16?) for this reason. You're provided with three other sauces to adjust tastes to your liking, though :) The bbq plates also come with a bowl of side salad to share and some raw veggies (squash, onion, lettuce, carrot) which you can char up on the grill as well. The pajeon (~$11) was huge... and probably among the better pajeon I've had (in Michigan, at least). The batter is nicely crispy on the outside and satisfyingly chewy on the inside with chunks of octopus and spring onions for flavor. I'd recommend it, but make sure to eat it quickly; it's best in the few crucial moments right after it's served. As with many Korean restaurants, there are small-plate appetizers prior to the meal - we were given a substantial amount of kimchi, vinegar-marinated cucumbers, bean curd (really good!) and potato salad. We asked for refills multiple times with gracious consent! Like other yelpers have said, the interior is quite tasteful and the main dining area, as well as bathrooms, are reassuringly sanitary. The staff is courteous and relatively helpful, though notably we did have one very shy waiter who ended up deferring to his superiors to explain the menu. There was also a birthday celebration during our meal - the waiters brought over a nice cake and sang happy birthday. Cute! All in all I'm a fan - not somewhere to eat dinner every day, since it's pretty pricey (especially for college students) but I liked the friendliness and open feeling of the restaurant... a little different atmosphere than bibimbap in Novi. Will be coming back! :)

I totally agree with fellow yelpers that this place is a wonderful addition to the Lansing area. Something different from what this area already has. The interior of the restaurant is neat and clean. The Korean BBQ is very delicious. We ordered short rib and beef tongue today. Both were marinated perfectly. The sauce was tasty and brought out the flavor of the meat itself instead of covering it. The beef was fresh and in good quality. You can definitely taste the difference. Too bad the portion is not very big (thus one star subtracted). The side dishes were also very yummy. I especially enjoyed the squash? dish and the potato salads. We also ordered seafood tofu soup . This is a must whenever I go to a Korean restaurant. It is very yummy and hearty in a snowy day. We will definitely come back.

If you are looking for more authentic Korean try Emos or Korea House - though the only place I have found authenticity was in NYC. The place is very nice, clean and very pleasant and the service was good. We have lived and traveled in Korea so the cuisine is fairly well known to us. The menu had haemul pajun (seafood) but we wanted a kimchi pajun. We made a request for kimchi pajun and were told it was not possible to omit the seafood. This is a surprise and must mean that the pajun is pre-made and warmed up or made from pre-prepared mix. Not a good thing. The bulgogi cooked at the table was very good, but was not presented with the usual lettuce leaves, chili sauce and other condiments typical of the dish. My dining companion ordered the bi bim bap, which was NOT served in a hot stone bowl as it usually is and lacked several of the usual condiments. This is a great place for someone who has tried Korean food to be introduced to the flavor profiles. I applaud the the creative take on Korean food and the "Americanizing" of he cuisine, but an authentic dish or two would be great. We probably will not be going back...

Worst serving experience I've ever had. Our server did not know any of the names of the items on the menu, asked us to open up the menu and point to what we wanted to order, neglected to bring us utensils (when prompted he claimed he couldn't find any clean ones), poked us to impolitely demand we hand him our glasses instead of just asking, and generally had a rude demeanor. I have also seen the employees smoking in the dining area after hours which I am pretty sure is illegal. They really need to train their staff better.
